“I don’t understand why you did all of this,” said Shelli Scott, of San Antonio, who calculated her family has lost about $700,000 with Pettit. “ I know: greed. I know people get greedy and that’s what I believe is behind this.” “I’ll absolutely do everything to help the trustee track the funds,” Pettit promised. “I’m not trying to hide anything.”
Pettit contends the money is his to spend because the retirement account was funded with legitimate earnings. The trustee, who was appointed by the court to oversee the assets, has said the retirement money should be off limits until the court rules whether it’s exempt from the bankruptcy estate and out of creditors’ reach.On ExpressNews.com:Pettit has been using the money for “extravagant living” in Florida, said attorney Patrick Huffstickler, who represents the trustee.
Huffstickler also said Chief U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Craig Gargotta would need to address a budget for Pettit. He originally claimed in bankruptcy documents the mansion was his, but in the amended paperwork he said it now belongs to his 10-year-old son’s trust. Florida corporate filings for Roble Dorado make no mention of the trust.
