"America was sure to react violently, like a wounded bear," he wrote in his autobiography."If the perpetrator turned out to be al-Qaida, then that wounded bear would come charging straight toward us." That has left another legacy: the deep mistrust that exists between Washington and Islamabad until today as a result of that so-called"double game." Amid nation-wide protests, Musharraf"doubled down," Waraich recalls."He imposed an emergency. And he banned journalists. He arrested opposition politicians."
