Expanding animal care services crucial to combating an uptick in surrendered pets, officials say

The city hopes to expand pet services for low-income areas, as shelters see an uptick in residents surrendering their pets.The initiative is part of a proposal in the Animal Care Services’ budget, said Lisa Norwood, the department’s public relations and outreach manager.

Currently, pet parents can obtain vaccines and rabies shots for cats and dogs. There are also free spay and neuter services organized by the city with the Animal Defense League.
