, since 2010, the city has added over 205,000 residents and 105,000 homes. The wider metro area has had even more expansive growth, adding nearly 1.2 million residents, a 20 percent increase from 2010.
The 10-year Census data we used comes with perks and downsides. The survey attempts to count of every resident in the U.S. which means it's more less of an estimate than other Census surveys. The data also allows us to look at detailed information about specific types of residents. For example, using this data we can determine the total number of Asian kids age 7 in Third Ward. However, the information is, at this point, three years old.

In both neighborhoods, white people are the largest share of people who live there, a trend unchanged from 2010. However the share of white residents in Lake Houston shrunk nearly 20 percentage points since 2010.
