Facebook joins YouTube and Netflix in reducing video quality in Europe amid virus pandemic

Facebook is reducing video streaming quality in Europe to avoid straining the internet, as more people are forced to stay at home.

Facebook said it would temporarily lower bit rates in Europe, following similar moves from YouTube, Netflix and Amazon.

EU industry official Thierry Breton has called on platforms to reduce streaming quality as more people are forced to stay at home. Disney has also committed to reducing strain on the web in Europe by lowering bandwidth utilization for its streaming service.
