Hawley blames TikTok for what he calls radically distorting the world picture that young Americans see daily, pointing to the large amount of anti-Israel content on the platform. "TikTok—and its parent company ByteDance—are threats to American national security," Hawley wrote in a letter to Janet Yellen. "While data security issues are paramount, less often discussed is TikTok’s power to radically distort the world picture that America’s young people encounter.", the platform claims that from October 7 to October 31, the hashtag #standwithisrael gained 1.5 times more views than #standwithpalestine.
Additionally, TikTok said that since the start of the war, they have removed millions of videos and fake accounts that violate the platform’s policies.
