San Antonio police and firefighters investigate the scene of a deadly dog attack Friday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2023, in the 2800 block of Depla Street.Ramon Najera and his wife, Janie Najera, were brutally attacked by a group of Staffordshire terriers, a breed of pit bull, Friday afternoon while visiting relatives in the 2800 block of Depla Street. Ramon died from his injuries, while Janie was critically injured trying to help her husband.

Video footage of the vicious attack showed Ramon being dragged by the dogs as horrified bystanders attempted to hit the dogs and spray them with water to stop the attack with little effect. When firefighters arrived, they engaged the dogs with pickaxes and pipes in an attempt to save Ramon.The dogs had escaped from a nearby yard and attacked as the Najeras were getting out of their car.
