The hosts of TheView discussed Tuesday their reactions to the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion, which would overturn the precedent established and upheld in Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
"My worry is that this is just the beginning," Joy Behar said, warning that gay marriage and Brown v. Board of Education could be next."I see fascism down the line here," she continued. When Whoopi Goldberg asked her co-hosts what their initial reactions to the leak were, Behar said,"I couldn't go back to sleep. It's that devastating."Goldberg became visibly angry during the segment, telling viewers,"It has nothing to do with religion.
She further explained that"getting an abortion is not easy. Making that decision is not easy. It’s not something people do lightly. It’s not something that you can just do. It is a hard, awful decision that people make." "If you’re starting it by telling me I'm going to burn in hell, then you’re not looking out for me as a human being, whether I subscribe to your religion or not, and that is not OK," Goldberg continued.
Sunny Hostin took the opportunity to say that while she considers herself Catholic, which she noted teaches that abortion is wrong, she doesn't think she should be able to force her views on others. On Monday night, a draft opinion overturning the previous precedent on abortion was leaked to Politico. Current and former politicians have slammed the notion, while others have blasted the leak itself and have called for an investigation.
