How we'd cast the retro hero cars if the Fast and Furious family went back in time.

movie installment is an artifact of its time, a reflection of the street racing scene of its era combined with the hottest sports cars, exotics, and SUVs the year it was filmed. With that in mind, we decided to fire up the time machine and recast the franchise as though it had originated not in the early 2000s but the 1980s, to help inject as much Rad action as possible into its cast of automobiles.

All of which brings us to the Mitsubishi Starion ESI-R, the widebody version of the Japanese brand's nearly-forgotten turbocharged flagship sports car. Featuring a huge 2.6-liter four-cylinder motor, hideaway headlights, and a big personality, the intercooled Starion was a rare force to be reckoned with during its brief glory rung during that decade.

What do each of those car have in common? They're all big coupes with big power, tuned to out-handle traditional muscle, which makes the only possible casting choice for Ortiz the Chevrolet Camaro 1LE. Originally built to dominate SCCA Showroom Stock competition on road courses across America, the 1LE combined the 5.7-liter V8 of the top-tier Camaro with a suspension and braking package that were a cut above almost any other American car at the time.
