Stafford man admits to transporting girl found in a plastic bin, US Attorney's Office says

Fernando Jaramillo, 22, is set for an Aug. 23 sentencing, where he could receive up to five years of federal imprisonment, per the release. He could also face a fine as high as $250,000.

Jaramillo went in March to a checkpoint close to Sarita, about 50 miles from Corpus Christi, per the release. After an alert from a K-9, authorities searched his vehicle and discovered clothes that “jolted upwards” inside a bin, per the release.Co-defendant in shooting death of Jazmine Barnes sentenced to 30 years in prison

They found “a small female child who they later determined was unlawfully present in the United States” when they opened the container, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. “The investigation revealed the minor was traveling with her mother within the United States. Earlier that day, unknown individuals had taken them to a store and separated them,” the release read. “The minor did not know Jaramillo, but he put her inside the plastic bin and told her she would be in there for about 45 minutes. He also instructed her to not make any noise. She remained inside of the bin until law enforcement found her.
