This is our first look at Ferrari's 2023 Le Mans Hypercar entrant
From 2023, Ferrari will be in top new race classFerrari, one of the greatest names in sports car racing, has released the first image of its new Hypercar endurance racer. The car’s links to Maranello’s current design language are clear, as is its ruthless focus on aerodynamic efficiency.
The Hypercar class has replaced the previous kings of sports car racing, the outlandishly fast and ferociously expensive LMP1 prototypes. Toyota and Glickenhaus are already racing their Hypercars and the new regulations, which reign in technical freedom to help reduce costs, have prompted a swathe of big-name OEMs to return to Le Mans, including Peugeot , Porsche, BMW and Audi.
Like his opposite number at Porsche, Coletta rues the reduced scope for innovation the new rules bring. But is nevertheless confident Ferrari can translate its expertise and huge experience into glory on track. ‘It is normal that as a manufacturer we would like to complete in a more free situation, and of course this won’t be the case. But we need to control the costs, and the costs in LMP1 was almost like Formula 1 before the cost cap.
