The co-founders of the hemp drink Kaló are battling in court over the future of the brand tied to a New Jersey cannabis company.

in September 2019 and Terra Tech purchased all of the stock in the company owned by the VandeVrede family, officials said.

Voorhees offered VandeVrede 60% interest in the hemp beverage venture while he kept the remaining 40%, according to a copy of the operating agreement. Later, 15% of the Voorhees’ interest was transferred to Makalo, a marketing company engaged by the business. However, despite Voorhees serving as the product developer and flavor specialist behind the scenes at Kaló, VandeVrede and his family took full credit for the product and coined themselves the “Family Behind the Flavor,” the lawsuit alleges.

The Voorhees’ lawsuit argues the funding was instead used to cover Hillview Med’s increased expenses as it was developing its cannabis cultivation facility.
