More than 50 people at a long-term care facility near Seattle show symptoms of the coronavirus after a resident and employee tested positive

Photo: David Ryder/Getty Images Health officials confirmed the first U.S. death from the coronavirus on Saturday in Washington State, where the governor has declared a state of emergency after multiple new coronavirus cases were confirmed over in the Seattle area since Friday.
On Friday night, Washington State health officials announced two other confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including a 15-year-old high school student in Snohomish County with no known links to any other outbreaks or infected people, and a woman in her 50s who had recently returned from Daegu, South Korea, where authorities have been struggling to contain a large outbreak.
A scramble in three states to identify more infections Health officials are now quickly trying to trace not only the origins of new infections in California, Oregon, and Washington State, but who else may have been exposed so they can be tested for the coronavirus. As of Friday, there appears to have been unexplained, previously undetected transmission in at least two communities in Northern California, at least one community in Oregon , and at least three communities in Washington State.
The patient, whose age and gender have not been revealed, is being treated at Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center in Hillsboro. The El Camino nurse, who did not want to be identified, said staff were frustrated and worried about the lack of available tests from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as protective gear such as n 95 respirator masks to protect health care workers treating the sick. The nurse said a doctor and several emergency room staff have been quarantined.
