TheFlash editor Paul Machliss says the DCU movie's delay was partially due to using groundbreaking tech 👀 'We’re the first film to be utilizing some very, very new technology in terms of getting multiple versions of the same actor on the screen...' 😮
The Flash editor Paul Machliss says the film's delay is partly due to its use of new technology. Directed by Andy Muschietti, the upcoming DCU film will be Ezra Miller's first standalone movie as the Scarlet Speedster. The project was long stuck in development limbo and suffered a couple of production woes before it moved forward with principal photography.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The Flash was supposed to premiere in November 2022, but alongside several other shifts in schedule, Warner Bros. pushed it to June 23, 2023. Now, Machliss shines a light on this delay in a new interview with IBC. According to him, part of the reason why The Flash film was pushed back was its use of groundbreaking technology. Read his full comment below:
Nothing. No, it’s gonna be exciting. I mean, Warners has charged us with making the best film we possibly can. What I can say is that we’re gonna be utilizing… We’re the first film to be utilizing some very, very new technology in terms of getting multiple versions of the same actor on the screen, rather than using either locked off cameras or even the motion controls we used in [Last Night in Soho].
At this point, it's difficult to say how big of an impact this new technology will have on the film. Machiss promises he will talk more about it once The Flash has come out, presumably because it was primarily used on spoiler-laden scenes. If this new technology turns out great, it could be a big help, not just for future DCU projects but MCU endeavors as well. Both franchises are currently tackling the multiverse, which includes the introduction of variants.
A lot has happened in the DCU in the last couple of months, including the franchise getting new co-CEOs in James Gunn and Peter Safran. Since The Flash was developed and filmed before the pair's tenure, they would have a very minimal impact on Muschietti's film. But since they are in charge of shaping the DCU moving forward, it's in their hands to decide what's next, if anything, for Miller's Scarlet Speedster after their first solo-outing.
