Florida Republicans take the lead in early voting ballots, an ominous sign for Democrats

Democrats led early voting by tens of thousands of ballots cast before Election Day in 2018 and 2020, and their candidates still lost statewide.

In 2018, Democrats had cast 31,641 more ballots than Republicans heading into Election Day and Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis still won.

The latest polls show DeSantis and Sen. Marco Rubio with sizable leads against their Democratic challengers. In the U.S. Senate race, the poll found that Rubio was well ahead of Democratic U.S. Rep. Val Demings, 54%-43%, with only few still on the fence Democrats have shifted many of their voters to casting ballots by mail, while Republicans dominate in Election Day voting.
