In Maryland, a maximum of $740 is sent to a household of three and $1,691 for a household of eight. The program adds up to $211 for each additional member past eight. The average payment per household member for each month is $180, and almost 800,000 people, or roughly 13% of the population, receive food stamps in the state.SNAP benefits are issued to eligible households between the 4th and 23rd of every month.
In Maryland, the payments are intended for"food and for plants and seeds to grow food for your household to eat,” according to the state. Food stamps cannot be used for nonfood items, alcohol, medicines, tobacco, or “hot foods that are ready to eat.”
