If there’s one thing in this fickle world of fashion you can surely count on, it’s that Victoria Beckham’s collections will be filled with color. Since her earliest collections, the designer has found new ways to mash up burgundy and navy or splice together lemon yellow with a rich, royal purple. So imagine the surprise when the lights went down on Beckham’s fall 2020 show and—whoa!—the first eight models were clad in almost head-to-toe black.
Speaking with Vogue Runway after the show, Beckham explained her shift this season. “For me, it’s about gentle rebellion,” she began. “Color is always key for me, so to start the show with eight or nine strong black looks was quite a statement for me.” In addition to getting her customers back into black, Beckham is also giving them another surprise: miniskirts.
