Former Alabama Congressman Terry Everett has passed away.
Michelle Mann REHOBETH — Former Alabama Congressman Terry Everett died at home Tuesday morning and Gov. Kay Ivey directed that the flags at the Alabama Capitol Complex and flags in the district he served be lowered to half-staff immediately and remain at half-staff until the day he is buried. He was 87.
“During his time on Capitol Hill, he was one of the strongest voices for Alabama’s military bases, active-duty personnel, and veterans,” Ivey added. “He was also a stalwart advocate for Alabama farmers and small businesses.” Troy University Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins agreed. “Terry Everett was one of the greatest Alabamians that I have been blessed to know,” he said. “It was with great pride in 2013 that we named our signature building on TROY’s Dothan Campus in his honor. We are also honored to be home to the R. Terry Everett Congressional Library, which contains many of his writings and papers from his 16 years representing Alabama’s Second Congressional District.
“We are saddened to hear the news today about the passing of Alabama Press Association Past President Terry Everett,” said Felicia Mason, APA Executive Director. “Terry was president of APA in 1991-92. He and Barbara were very active in the association and very special to the APA members and staff.
