In September 2023, in response to concerns from residents, fans and historic preservationists, Park moved to save the home by designating it as a historic cultural monument. The councilwoman said it would be a “devastating blow” for historic preservation and for a city where less than 3% of historic designations are associated with women's heritage.Residents in proximity to the Brentwood home have expressed concerns about privacy and safety with the designation.
Those conversations have yet to be held, but the councilwoman expressed her hope that it can be done in the future.
