When former WGN-Channel 9 reporter and former WTTW-Channel 11 correspondent and program host Eddie Arruza was sent out with a news crew to look for city salt trucks on the North Side for a TV news story in the late 1990s, he discovered the North Side West Ridge neighborhood — an area that he recalls today he was “instantly taken” by, given its many classic bungalows and how beautiful he found it to be, he says, “especially after a snowfall.
Now, having undergone some changes in his work and his lifestyle, Arruza in July sold the bungalow for $520,000. Arruza, who left Channel 11 in 2019 after 15 years as a correspondent for “Chicago Tonight,” told Elite Street that he sold the home to take advantage of “the red-hot seller’s market,” and he feels he “got in under the wire.
Built in 1928, the West Ridge bungalow has 1-1/2 bathrooms, restored maple floors, original French doors throughout, a partially finished basement with a half bath, a dining room, a living room with original stained glass windows and a ventless gas fireplace. The house also has a kitchen with custom cabinetry, a double stainless steel sink, granite countertops and a pantry alcove.Arruza first listed the house in June for $475,000, meaning the home sold for above its asking price.
