Former Xolos player charged with smuggling undocumented women through Otay Mesa border [Breaking]
Raúl Enríquez Arámbula, the all-time leading scorer for the Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles soccer team, was arrested Sunday for allegedly trying to smuggle two undocumented immigrants hiding in his vehicle through the Otay Mesa border crossing.
According to prosecutors and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Enríquez was arrested a little after 5 a.m. Sunday after he tried to enter the U.S. through a SENTRI lane at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry. While at the customs booth, an officer shone a flashlight into the back of his Cadillac SUV and noticed a dark blanket covering something, according to a probable cause statement.
Both women also told investigators they had made the smuggling arrangements with people they did not know and had agreed to pay between $15,000 and $18,500 once they were successfully brought into the country, according to the probable cause statement.
