The Mustangs came up just short of the ultimate prize with a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Georgetown in the UIL Class 5A title game at Dell Diamond. The Mustangs were making their second state appearance after the 2008 squad lost to eventual champion Corpus Christi Calallen in the semifinals. This time around, the Mustangs avoided the quick exit with a 4-2 victory over Mansfield Legacy on Thursday.
Georgetown was making the program’s third state appearance since 2015. The Eagles had lost in the championship game in its previous two visits, but they were able to flip the script this time around and capture the program’s first title.
