❄️ Frigid temps remain in North Texas; we’ll have a slight warming and then refreezing overnight

Vehicles drive on North Central Expressway as sleet falls on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2022, in Dallas, TX. Icy conditions were forecasted overnight Wednesday into Thursday of this week. The sleet and snow has come and gone with the second day of this year’s winter storm in North Texas, but despite the resurgence of sunshine, the National Weather Service said subfreezing temperatures are far from over.

Between 1.7 and 2.5 inches of sleet and snow accumulated in the Dallas-Fort Worth area Thursday, and other areas northwest of Dallas-Fort Worth saw up to 3 inches of snow and sleet in some places. Snow is no longer in the forecast, but the weather service issued a wind chill advisory from 9 p.m. Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday, with dangerous wind chills of minus-5 to 5 degrees possible through Saturday.

MedStar said Friday morning that they have already treated 11 people for cold-related illnesses since the start of the storm, with 10 of those requiring hospitalization. Any melting seen on Friday will refreeze by Saturday AM. Patchy freezing fog is possible in the morning hours for portions of NTX and CTX. Better melting will be observed in the afternoon on Saturday due to above freezing temps and the reappearance of the sun!
