Electric cars rightly deserve some criticism for being too expensive to provide all the benefits they have to offer to the broadest swath of potential buyers, thus minimizing their impact somewhat. A few companies are trying to fill that cheap EV void with microcars and urban transportation solutions., a tiny car with limited features and a minuscule battery—and arguably a good solution for many urban trips in Europe.
Of course, the O isn't assembled from a bunch of fiberboard, but it does break down into much smaller components, which can be shipped in a crate and assembled at a local factory . Shipping space-efficient CKDs and relying on local facilities for reassembly is a time-tested strategy, but as far as we're aware no one's doing that in the EV or micromobility space at the moment. And it's not just beneficial from a cost perspective, but an emissions and energy perspective as well.
The Luvly O is also claimed to be lightweight and largely recyclable. Range is claimed to be about 62 miles—if that bears out, it should beat the Ami's numbers. Of course, Luvly is in its early stages, and the cars are not yet on sale, so for now consider this Swedish company to be an interesting thought experiment in urban mobility with some clever ideas that may either succeed or inspire others to think more about how CKDs may help in EV adoption worldwide.
