A marine mystery: Finding the link between climatechange and sea sponge loss

]. Analysis of variance was used to test the effect of pH, temperature and the interaction between the two factors on host health using the R aov function. For the microbiome composition, since a relatively low number of taxa was identified , they were all retained to assess the impact of OW, OA and the combination of factors.

To further identify the biological processes impacted by OW, KEGG modules were identified within the dataset using the “annotate” and “classify” functions of enrichM . Only modules that were at least 70% complete were kept for further analysis. KOs identified across all metagenomes fell into 219 prokaryotic modwere kept for statistical analyses by EdgeR, which was run with the same settings as for the KOs analysis.

Creating complex protocells and prototissues using simple DNA building blocks - Nature CommunicationsCreating complex protocells and prototissues using simple DNA building blocks - Nature CommunicationsBuilding synthetic protocells and prototissues hinges on the formation of biomimetic skeletal frameworks. Here, the authors harness simplicity to create complexity by assembling DNA subunits into structural frameworks which support membrane-based protocells and prototissues.

Transposon signatures of allopolyploid genome evolution - Nature CommunicationsTransposon signatures of allopolyploid genome evolution - Nature CommunicationsAssigning assembled chromosomes to subgenome in allopolypoid genome analysis is challenging. Here, the authors report a statistical formwork for identifying evolutionarily coherent subgneomes relying on transposable elements to group chromosomes into sets with shared ancestry and apply it in cyprinids, false flax and strawberry.

Influence of El Niño on the variability of global shoreline position - Nature CommunicationsInfluence of El Niño on the variability of global shoreline position - Nature CommunicationsIn this study, the authors use a global dataset of satellite-derived shoreline positions, and demonstrate that their interannual evolution is dominated by El Niño through its worldwide influence of sea level, river discharge and ocean waves

In-plane and out-of-plane excitonic coupling in 2D molecular crystals - Nature CommunicationsIn-plane and out-of-plane excitonic coupling in 2D molecular crystals - Nature CommunicationsThe mixing between Frenkel and charge-transfer characters in molecular excitons is difficult to analyze. Here, the authors demonstrate the onset and evolution of the mixing using 2D perylene molecular crystals by measuring the reorientation of emission transition dipoles with varying thicknesses.
