At this point in Union’s career, she’s used to juggling multiple responsibilities on one project. “As a Black woman in this industry, a Black woman who has to navigate this world, I have to always wear multiple hats. It is not easy. I didn't ask for this, but I became quite good at it,” she says. “It's not as difficult for me as it is for some, because I don't really know anything different.
Despite her success, Union still feels connected to the working girl who booked her first break in the 2000 teen movie. “For the vast majority of my career, [I was] very much in the proletariat class,” she says. “My entree into the bourgeois, in terms of Hollywood, is new. My loyalty and my focus is on working people. And most talent, we're just rank and file working people. We are no different. We're not treated really any different than [the] crew.
