In the last three years, Garland’s middle school students made consistent gains in Algebra I. STAAR tests in 2023 showed that 50% of its students met or exceeded grade level.is becoming a generational challenge. Some analysts are warning that, because of these lagging skills, the U.S. technological dominance is under threat.

Tutoring in small groups, with no more than four students, has been highly effective in Garland, explained Chelsea Jeffery, chief regional impact officer for Commit.
