The news could spell a return to the spotlight for bombastic Vice Media co-founder Shane Smith, who held the role of CEO in the company’s heyday.
Two weeks ago, the company said it was closing Vice World News, a global reporting initiative that covered world conflict and human rights abuses — which the news outlet was known for under Smith.
Vice Media Group’s main businesses include the Vice Studios film and TV production unit; the Vice TV television network; Vice News; and creative agency Virtue. The company’s also owns includes female-focused website Refinery29, London-based Pulse Films and i-D, a digital and print style publication covering fashion, culture and design.
