A top Republican state lawmaker said Monday he expects that Ohio Republicans will tweak and pass a voter photo ID bill before the end of the year as part of a larger package of elections changes.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – would create a new photo ID requirement for Ohioans, requiring them to provide a driver’s license or other state-issued identification card with a current address when they vote. That would be a change from current law, which allows voters to offer an alternative form of non-photo ID, like a bank statement, utility bill or paycheck.

“If you go to the poll now, you have to show your ID, but if you have an address on it that does not match your current address, you can still vote,” said Seitz, a Cincinnati Republican who serves in House leadership. “So I hope she doesn’t want to change that, because then we’d have to go to the BMV and get a new ID every time we move.”
