At the Versace fall 2024 show on Friday, models—including Gigi Hadid and Amelia Gray—traversed the runway with an eye look that would have made your moody teenage self proud. “It’s all about punk,” says make-up artist Pat McGrath, who was behind the looks. “The focus is a wet, inky-black eye that feels very rebellious, but is still glamorous and sexy.
“It’s a dramatic black wing: one is sharp and graphic, one has soft edges, and one is a very bold shape, paired with bleached brows,” she tells Vogue. Layering the Xtreme Black shade from her Mothership I: Subliminal Palette over her PermaGel Ultra Glide Eye Pencil, also in Xtreme Black, for intensity, she then loaded up on mascara. The key to making it luxe? A daub of clear balm on the center of eyelids for a “reflective, glossy effect”.
