A large police operation in Massapequa Park began in the early morning hours Friday in connection with the ongoing Gilgo Beach investigation.
MASSAPEQUA PARK, Nassau County --
A person has been taken into custody on Long Island in connection with the Gilgo Beach murders, multiple law enforcement sources told ABC News. A large police operation was occurring in Massapequa Park, led by Suffolk County Police, NY State Police and other law enforcement partners. There is a court proceeding in Riverhead later Friday, at which point any paperwork associated with the arrest would be unsealed.
The unidentified man is being eyed in the four deaths of women, wrapped in burlap and discovered within days of each other from late 2010, the group referred to as the "Gilgo Four."While one person was initially assumed responsible for all the bodies found, an alternate theory emerged that they were the result of two killers.
The remains of 10 people were found in 2010 and 2011 in the weedy sections off Ocean Parkway near Jones Beach. At the time, police said half of the identified victims worked as prostitutes.
