Gloria Rojas, trailblazing ‘Eyewitness News’ reporter, dead at 82
who broke new ground in the 1970s as New York City’s first on-air Latina broadcast journalist, has died.Rojas, who died Wednesday at a nursing facility in Cambridge, Maryland, joined “Eyewitness News” in 1974. Her tenure as one of the most visible Latina TV reporters in the country lasted more than 11 years at ABC.
Starting in 1980, Rojas’ Garden State reports took on topics ranging from women in politics to the scourge of toxic waste and the draught that affected Newark, Wayne and other local communities.
