Golden Days three big annual celebrations take place Saturday.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Golden Days began last week and the celebrations are coming to an end this weekend with three annual events.

On Saturday, July 15, the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce is putting on the Golden Days Grande Parade, Golden Days Street Fair, and the Rubber Ducky Race. While the street fair will be the first event to start, many consider the parade to be the first event. The parade will begin at 10 a.m., with the entree’s lining up as early as 7 a.m. Taking an estimated two hours to complete, the parade will start at the Carlson Center and follow a route down 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue “go[ing] right through downtown,” said Jeremy Johnson, the president and CEO of the Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce.

Another event that will be packed is the street fair, for which every vendor spot has been filled. At the street fair, there will be places to buy food, items and more, including a booth for last minute ticket buyers for the rubber ducky race. The street fair will end at 5 p.m. “At 3 o’clock is the rubber ducky race. Mt. McKinley is the sponsor this year and we dump 8,000 rubber ducky’s in the Chena River and they float down and the first prize winner gets $10,000 cash if they bought a yellow ticket and $5,000 cash if they bought a pink ticket,” Johnson said. The latest a ticket can be purchased is around 3:15 p.m.
