The governor’s Public Lands Policy Coordinating Office urged approval of the controversial plan to siphon water from the Great Salt Lake last spring, but has now changed its position.
When asked about his office’s initial position on US Magnesium’s canal project, a spokesperson for the governor referred The Tribune to PLPCO for comment.
He emphasized the importance of working with the lake’s many stakeholders — including extractive industries, brine shrimpers, agriculture and cities — to bring it to a level where it is sustainable for everyone.
