Greg Abbott said the utility’s original timeline was not aggressive enough. Abbott released the embattled utility provider’s revised proposal Thursday evening after meeting with CenterPoint executives.
Abbott issues ultimatum to CenterPoint over Beryl outages, threatens executive action “The original proposal was inadequate,” Abbott wrote on social media. “More must be done & faster.” It caps a week of scrutiny from lawmakers in Austin, including often tense hearings at the Capitol where state House and Senate members from both parties grilled CenterPoint CEO Jason Wells over the utility’s failures during Beryl.
CenterPoint withdraws request to fund resiliency plan “You have my commitment that our leadership team will work urgently and take every possible action to re-earn your trust, and that of the millions of people in the Greater Houston area who depend on us,” Wells said in the letter submitted to Abbott’s office on July 24.
CenterPoint blames trees for Beryl power outages — yet keeping limbs off power lines is its job The plan calls for replacing about 1,000 poles by the end of the month, a goal it had originally set for Dec. 31. The utility also says it expects to “harden” nearly 350 distribution line miles to the latest extreme wind standard on a reliability-risk basis by the end of the year.
