Just be careful out there, Ohio.
Gov. Mike DeWine speaks at a press conference Thursday warning Ohioans to stay home the next couple days as a major winter storm is expected to hit the state over Christmas weekend. COLUMBUS, Ohio--Gov. Mike DeWine and state emergency officials urged Ohioans to stay home as a major winter storm is expected to hit Ohio starting Thursday night, bringing snow and bitterly cold temperatures.
What makes the situation extra dangerous, DeWine said, is that the storm is arriving at the start of Christmas weekend, one of the busiest travel times of year. As sodium chloride salt becomes ineffective at melting snow and ice when the temperature falls below about 20 degrees, Marchbanks said ODOT trucks will spread calcium chloride salt, which works at lower temperatures.
Ohio State Highway Patrol Superintendent Col. Charles A. Jones urged drivers to check their vehicle’s battery, washer fluid level, defrost system, heating system and tires before departing. He also recommended putting together a winter car kit in case of a breakdown.
