The government's rice reserves in Bulog warehouses currently reach 1.6 million tons. This number will increase to 2 million tons once imported rice, one of which comes from Cambodia, arrives.

Warehouse, Bogor Regency, West Java, Monday . During his visit, President Jokowi was accompanied by the Main Director of Perum Bulog Budi Waseso, Head of the National Food Agency Arief Prasetyo Adi, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir.

According to the President, the importation of rice is meant to ensure that the country has a strategic rice reserve. It is also intended to maintain prices and prevent an increase due to the decrease in rice production caused by El Nino.was also influenced by global conditions, one of which was when India announced a ban on the export of several types of rice on July 20 2023.

During those three months, the government allocated around 640,000 tons of rice as food aid to 21.3 million beneficiary families. The aid worth Rp 8 trillion was disbursed to individuals who each received 10 kilograms per month for three months. Company Secretary of Perum Bulog, Awaludin Iqbal, emphasized that with the import of 400,000 tons of rice, the CBP in Bulog remains above the government's target of 1.2 million tons until the end of the year. However, after subtracting the allocation for food assistance, the CBP is approximately 1.4 million tons. Forbidden words: none.

According to data from the National Food Agency's Food Price Panel , the average price of medium rice at retail level as of September 11, 2023 amounted to Rp 12,760 per kg. This price experienced a monthly increase of 6.6 percent and a yearly increase of 16.63 percent. Furthermore, the current rice prices have also exceeded the highest retail price , which is Rp 10,900 per kg.

Budi hopes that the food assistance that is currently being distributed can lower the price of rice to reach the specified market price or at least Rp 11,000 per kg. In addition to distributing aid, they also participate in maintaining the stability of the price and availability of rice through market operations or Supply and Price Stabilization to modern retailers and traditional markets.
