ICYMI: The Guardians delivered in the 8th to secure a huge win over the Angels.
The victory was just the fifth by Cleveland in the last 11 games.
Cal Quantrill started the game by allowing a leadoff home run to Mickey Moniak. The Angels left fielder celebrated his 25th birthday by becoming the first Angel to hit a leadoff homer on the day he was born. The Guards threatened to respond in their half of the first. Kwan hit a leadoff double off lefty Reid Detmers. Rosario moved him to third with a single to right. Ramirez struck out, but Bell sent a fly ball to right field that was deep enough to score Kwan.
Manager Terry Francona, just about that time, was thinking about what he was going to tell his team after the game. The Angels, following Moniak’s leadoff homer, made it a 3-0 game with two runs in the third. Moniak drew a one-out walk, stole second and then watched Quantrill hit Mike Trout with a pitch.
The Angels tried to put the game away with three runs in the seventh and eighth innings. Luis Rengifo, who replaced injured Rendon, singled home Moniak with a two-out single in the seventh.
