Gwyneth Paltrow screened her 1996 movie ‘Emma’ at the White House for then-president Bill Clinton and his family
Gwyneth Paltrow effortlessly played the matchmaking Emma Woodhouse in the 1996 adaptation of Emma, even if the film did not captivate every viewer.
Paltrow starred as the titular character in the adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1815 novel of the same name. As in the classic book, Paltrow’s Emma fancies herself a matchmaker for her friends. At the same time, Emma captivates the attention of Frank Churchill . The film was written and directed by Douglas McGrath, who died in 2022.
McGrath also predicted that Emma would be a hit in the United States — Clinton, now 77, aside — compared to Austen’s home country of England.
