Before he was a two-time Le Mans winner with Porsche, Stuck was a BMW driver with the best company car in the world.
Hans-Joachim Stuck is a legend in sports car racing, most notably behind the wheel of Porsche's 962Cs in the mid-1980s. Before he became a two-time Le Mans winner, however, Stuck was one of the most effective shoes in BMW's stable during the reign of the E9-based Group 5 3.0 CSL, known in its ultimate form as the"Batmobile." That iconic car came with a homologation special, a limited-run 3.
The car is one of just 57 Second Series homologation specials, and one of 1265 total 3.0 CSLs in any form. As with all CSLs, the car is the most performance-oriented form of the E9-generation grand tourer that started so much of the legend of BMW performance. The CSL designation indicated lighter materials and, eventually, fuel injection.
