A woman found dead along Pacheco Pass Highway near Gilroy nearly 30 years ago, a victim of the Happy Face Killer, has been identified, authorities said Monday.Patricia Skiple of Colton, Oregon, had been known only as “Blue Pacheco” — for the color of her clothing and the location where she was found — until genetic genealogy was used to identify her last week, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said.
Skiple’s body was found on June 3, 1993, by a trucker who had pulled over on Pacheco Pass Highway east of Casa de Fruta. She was thought to have been dead at least a week; her cause of death could not be determined. Initially arrested in 1995, he confessed to killing eight women from 1990 to 1995 in California, Washington, Oregon, Florida and Wyoming. Skiple, the mother of two, worked as a nurse’s aide and in canneries near Colton, a small town southeast of Portland, her sister Gloria White told Bay City News.White said she thinks it’s likely that her sister accepted a ride from Jesperson but had no acquaintances in the area or any other reason to go to Santa Clara County.These are Jesperson’s eight confirmed victims:Unidentified woman, August 1992 near Blythe, Calif.
