After decades in debt, an $8.4 million payment made Friday will help Harrisburg be debt-free in the coming months.
An $8.4 million payment made by the City of Harrisburg on Friday is expected to enable the the city to be debt free by next year.
In addition to Friday’s payment, the city has signed off on a final schedule of debt payments with the goal of being debt free by 2023. Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams added that having the city debt-free was something she has worked toward since she was first elected to the city council. City Controller Charlie DeBrunner commended city officials for not putting debt payments off, but rather “proactively managing our outstanding debt. We are headed towards structural security in our budget for the first time in decades.”
