He refused to show his face to the courtroom.DUBLIN — A San Francisco man was found guilty of murder and use of a knife in connection with a 2019 fatal stabbing on a BART train in Hayward, court records show.
Jermain Jeremiah Brim, 43, was convicted Oct. 4 in the stabbing death of Oliver T. Williams, 49, who also went by Tyrone Hodges. The sentencing date has been tentatively set for February, where Brim is expected to receive a life term that gives him a chance for parole.on the early afternoon of Nov. 19, 2019, as a BART train rode into Hayward. The two began arguing and fighting after Brim allegedly tried to steal a sleeping passenger’s shoes and Williams intervened.
The prosecution against Brim, a former janitor at Kaiser Permanente, was stalled for years in part due to concerns about his mental competence for trial. In 2020, his attorney declared a doubt to Brim’s competency, triggering a mandatory review by mental health professionals. Brim was also initially charged with crimes that made him eligible for the death penalty or life without parole, as well as carjacking a man in an attempt to flee from a BART station.
