It's about to get even hotter for millions across the South. Here's what you need to know:
Numerous daily record highs will be set from Arizona to Texas.
A heat dome that is temporarily expanding across the southern United States this week will bring sweltering temperatures that could break more daily records in Texas and the Southwest while also pushing heat indices over 100 degrees in many parts of the Southeast.Numerous daily record highs were set in the Southwest, but Reno, Nevada, tied its all-time record of 108 degrees on Sunday.
Daily record highs through midweek are most likely from Arizona to New Mexico and Texas, including Phoenix, San Antonio and Houston. The graphic below shows the peak heat index forecast for select cities in the Deep South. Many locations will see their heat index top out anywhere from 100 to 110 degrees at times through the end of the week.Late this week into the weekend, the heat dome will shift back to the Southwest, which will make the Southeast trend less hot.
