Heat coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged injured guard Tyler Herro is “progressing,” but wanted to temper any excitement about his potential return in the NBA Finals.

Paying attention:

Nuggets coach Michael Malone always has a pulse on what his opponents are saying, but it’s not as if he’s watching the interviews on off days himself. “I’m getting it from my assistant coaches,” Malone said. “I’m not sitting there reading the ticker. But we meet a lot, we talk a lot. When an opposing team only has two free throw attempts as a team and Jimmy Butler, who was third in the playoffs coming into this series at 9.1 per game and he gets zero, it’s just common sense that they’re going to be a hell of a lot more aggressive, understanding that they have to get there more than two times a game, because that’s who they’ve been.

“… That’s one thing, without hearing them, we knew already that they were going to be a lot more aggressive because that’s what every team tends to do in these Playoffs,” Malone said. Butler made a point, multiple times, of saying how aggressive he intended to be heading into Game 2. Once again, that responsibility will largely fall to Aaron Gordon, whose defense this postseason has been phenomenal, whether it was against Kevin Durant, LeBron James or now Butler.
