Competing at his fifth and final Olympics, Shaun White doesn’t have the sponsorship portfolio he once did, but he can still command six figures annually with his deals.

But perhaps no athlete at this year’s Beijing Games is identified as closely with their sport as White, who has piled up three gold medals at the Winter Olympics and 13 at the Winter X Games while hoisting himself into the conversation of all-time sports greats. That popularity ensures that White, who signed his first endorsement deal with Burton Snowboards at age 7, continues to have a hold on brands nearly 30 years later as he prepares to compete at his fifth Olympics.

White, a native of Carlsbad, California, who underwent a pair of open heart surgeries before his first birthday to correct a congenital defect, burst on the scene in 2002 by capturing two silver medals at the X Games. From there, he went on an unprecedented run of success, winning a total of 23 X Games medals, including five in skateboarding at the summer edition of the event.
