Wrecking the economy for political chuckles is not a strategy
♦ The GOP bill would slash $99 million in funding for schools serving low-income kids -- dropping it to its lowest level in about a decade – which the DOE says is the equivalent of removing 1,500 teachers from the classroom.
♦ Title IV funding, which helps educators address students’ mental health issues, would take a $5.7 million hit, in a state where there is only one school psychologist for every 731 students and one social worker for every 655 – both well below the♦ Pell Grants would be eliminated altogether for 2,100 students in our state, and the maximum award for the remaining 493,000 students who receive them would drop to 1,000 each.
