After two years, the St. Patrick's Day Parade returns to South Boston on Sunday. And with the Boys and Girls Club Road Race taking place at the same time, expect lots of activity — as well as delays and closures.

To the disappointment of some, this year's route is a little different. Event organizers decided to exclude Dorchester Heights, a pit stop that holds a special place in the hearts of those who flock to the parade to also celebrate Evacuation Day. The local holidayThe decision to shorten the route happened weeks ago when the city — and the country — was at the height of another surge brought on by the highly contagious omicron variant.
