Sen. John Thune, R-S.D., announced Monday he is running to replace Mitch McConnell as Republican Senate leader when the Kentucky lawmaker steps down in January—becoming the second of at least four senators expected to run for the position.John Cornyn, R-Texas, conduct a news conference in the Capitol on October 10, 2018.
Cornyn’s announcement came less than 24 hours after McConnell announced Wednesday he would step down after the November election, ending his tenure as the longest serving Senate leader in history.
