A three-alarm vegetation fire broke out in the hills above Benicia in Solano County on Wednesday afternoon and quickly burned more than 50 acres.
According to the Benicia Fire Department, what has been dubbed the"Herman Fire" started burning in the area of Lake Herman Road and Channel Road around 5 p.m. In less than 90 minutes, the fire tore through more than 100 acres.
As of about 6:50 p.m., Benicia firefighters tweeted that an estimated 115 acres have burned and that forward progress had been stopped. The fire is about 40% contained. UPDATE: Forward progress of the vegetation fire between Lake Herman Road and Channel Road has stopped. The fire is 40% contained at 115 acres.
